No. 1 for the third time in a row in Mercer's 2011 Quality of Living ranking

Vienna’s excellent infrastructure, safe streets and good public health service make it the best place to live in the world according to the consulting group Mercer. In their annual global Quality of Living Survey, Vienna places first for the third time in a row followed by Zurich and Auckland. Honolulu was the highest-ranking US city in 29th place. Baghdad is at the bottom of the table.

Mercer conducts this survey to help governments and multi-national companies compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments. In the 2011 survey, Mercer separately identified those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based on internal stability, crime levels, law enforcement effectiveness and the host country’s international relations. Vienna ranks fifth on this list, which is topped by Luxembourg.
