Vienna ranked as world’s most livable city for the ninth consecutive year

March 20, 2018

Austria’s capital city tops the ranking, followed by Zurich in second and Auckland (New Zealand) and Munich (Germany) in joint third

Vienna once again defended its position as the world’s best city to live in. Mercer surveys 231 cities worldwide to provide data for companies and organizations about the quality of living for employees sent to work abroad. Included criteria in the survey are political stability, health care, education, crime, recreation and transport. Mercer’s Quality of Living research should assist to compensate international staff fairly.

Austria’s capital city tops once again the ranking, followed by Zurich (Switzerland) and then Auckland (New Zealand) and Munich (Germany) in joint third. Vancouver offers the best quality of living in North America and ranks fifth. The highest ranked US city is San Francisco at 30. Europe has eight of the world’s top 10 most liveable cities. Germany and Switzerland each have three; Austria, Copenhagen, New Zealand, Canada and Australia each have one.

Vienna boasts a vibrant cultural scene, comprehensive healthcare and moderate housing costs. It simply offers the best quality of life in the world.
