Team increases its knowledge of Austria’s largest investor

On September 24 the team of the Austrian Trade Commission Chicago visited the corporate headquarters of Baxter Healthcare Corp. in Deerfield, IL as part of its annual “Incentive Day.” A leader in healthcare for more than 75 years, Baxter is the single largest U.S. investor in Austria. The group was met by Markus Reinhard, Vice President of Global Human Resources, an Austrian who recently transferred to the Deerfield facility. Mr. Reinhard and Scott Storer, Vice President of Finance, presented an overview of Baxter’s global activities and achievements, followed by lunch. Many thanks to both gentlemen for a fascinating visit!

2,500 people work at the Baxter corporate headquarters in Deerfield; the company has 49,700 employees worldwide in more than 250 facilities. There are 14,700 employees in Europe; of those 3,833 work in Austria. At their research center in Orth an der Donau, scientists are working to apply developing technologies both to new vaccines and also to improve the performance of Baxter's already marketed vaccines.

The company has sales of 12.6 billion USD globally and 917 million USD invested in R&D.

Baxter operates in three business segments:
- Medication (products used in the delivery of fluids and drugs to patients)
- Renal (kidney, home dialysis)
- Bioscience (vaccines, products to treat hemophilia)
