Waste Expo 2009 – Not exactly garbage

June 22, 2009

Even the solid waste and recycling experts jump on the “green” wagon

The Austrian environmental technology is a very important industry and Austrian companies have a wealth of experience in this field. Waste Expo 2009 exhibitors and visitors alike saw for themselves - five of these companies were part of this year’s Waste Expo, which was held from June 9 to 11 in Las Vegas.

Austrian companies have become a regular feature at trade shows in the U.S., especially in the increasingly important environmental sector. Austria boasts a unique pool of expertise, one reason why it is regarded as one of the leading countries worldwide in environmental technologies.

Austrian environmental companies already have a large presence in the U.S., among them were the following exhibitors at Waste Expo 2009, which represented their products and services at the Austrian information booth:

Entec Biogas GmbH (offering a wide range of digester systems/biogas plants)
Komptech GmbH (specializing in the mechanical processing of solid waste and biomass)
Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH (specializing in shredding trechnology and alternative fuel processing systems)

Apart from the Austrian booth organized by the Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago, UNTHA Shredding Technology (manufacturer of shredders for a wide range of applications) and Palfinger North America (manufacturer of truck-mounted material handling equipment) as well as Entec Biogas GmbH and Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH had individual booths

Visitors and exhibitors agreed on one thing: The green movement at this year’s show was put under a spotlight even more than at past Waste Expos. Participants were eager to attract customers more efficiently and to emphasize the right way of doing business in the current economic climate by fostering existing business relationships, improving customer service and simply having a presence at major industry events.

This year’s Waste Expo provided an endless array of environmentally friendly products, such as:

  • solar compaction systems
  • biodegradable kitchenware and utensils
  • a growing number of various recycling programs, with companies looking to add recycling to their operations and/or improve the efficiency of existing recycling programs
  • greater interest in waste-to-energy initiatives and opportunities

Waste Expo is the largest North American solid waste and recycling tradeshow. Next year Waste Expo 2010 will be held from May 4 to 6 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago will once again organize an Austrian information booth for Austrian companies.
