Welcome to Miami!

October 20, 2015

With new direct service from Vienna to Miami, Austrian Airlines is adding yet another connection between Austria and the USA

Since mid-October Austrian Airlines is offering five weekly flights to Florida’s most populated city and major airport hub, thus expanding its overall service to North America. The 5.5 million metropolis Miami is the sixth destination for Austria’s national carrier, complementing existing routes to New York, Newark, Washington, Chicago and Toronto in Canada. Overall, Austrian Airlines offers a total of 27 weekly flights to North America this winter. About 50,000 additional passengers are expected.

The new route will be offered year-round and helps facilitate US-Austrian trade relations and tourism. About 30 Austrian companies are already located in Florida, which is the fourth-largest economy in the United States. Products and services range from compressors to staffing services and logistics. Florida’s major industry is tourism, not surprising as the Sunshine State offers the second longest coast line of all US states and mild temperatures year-round. Miami is also one of the most important U.S. seaports for cruise-ships and cargo vessels alike. In addition, agriculture plays a vital role in Florida, which grows the majority of America’s citrus fruits. Aviation and aerospace industry is yet another important factor in the state. All industries offer vast business opportunities to Austrian companies.

Exports from Florida to Austria reached USD 51 Mio in 2014, with computers and electronic products as well as electrical equipment and components being the major articles. The new flight route – operated with Boeing  777 aircrafts - will no doubt make it easier for future transactions to take place.  Austrian Airlines Flight OS097 leaves Vienna at 9:55 a.m. and touches down in Miami at 3:20 p.m. The flight duration for the 8,400 km stretch is nine hours and 40 minutes. The return flight leaves Miami at 5:10 p.m. arriving in Vienna at 8:50 a.m. the next day (OS098).

Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest airline carrier and operates a global route network of around 130 destinations. They are part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international airlines.
