Austrian Paper Processing Industry Still Showing Signs of Success

Production at a High Level – Exports Increase 2.1% to 1.2 b EUR

Vienna – The paper processing industry increased its output of various paper, paperboard and corrugated cardboard products by 3.1% to 1.1 m tons with a value of 1.9 b EUR (+5.6%) in 2007. Packaging, which constitutes the largest sector of the industry with a 54% share, had sales of 710,000 tons with a value of 1.01 b EUR. Exports grew by 2.1% to 1.2 b EUR, while imports increased by 1.8%. Roughly 10,000 employees attained an added value of 2.1 b EURO. Industry orders were satisfactory in the first quarter of 2008; an upwards trend is expected in 2008 and a growth rate of 3% is forecast.

These were the numbers according to PPV Austria , the Austrian Paper Processing Association, which recently published its 2007 annual report. PPV Austria stands for paper processing in Austria. 110 companies with over 10,000 employees process and refine 1.1 m tons of paper and paperboard annually into corrugated cardboard, packaging, hygienic paper goods, office materials, books, and brochures, as well as a variety of other paper goods.
