This year, the evening of 17 June in Vienna is going to be all about the Austrian export economy: Exporters’ Nite will feature both the presentation of the Austrian Export Prize and the unveiling of this year’s Born Global Champion award-winners.
This prize recognises Austrian start-ups/scale-ups that have achieved very early success on international markets, produced innovative products and services, and experienced speedy growth. This was the tenth year the prizes have been awarded, and some 400 companies have won a Born Global Champion Award since 2015, including bitpanda, Austria’s first “unicorn”.
The current edition of the Austrian Startup Monitor shows the major contribution Austrian start-up scene is making to Austria’s status as a business location; there are some 30,000 people involved in start-ups and one in three start-ups makes more than half its profits in exports; with scale-ups, almost one in five make more than 90% selling abroad.
Artificial intelligence is still in pole position in innovation and technology trends (73%), even increasing its lead (+16%), while renewable energies (35%; -5%), energy storage (32%; -3%) and automation (29%; +6%) are also in the running.
