According to the latest figures from Statistics Austria, Austria exported 67.7 million liters of wine in 2022, which corresponds to a value of 231,3 million euros. Although volume was slightly down on the previous year (-3.5%), value rose by 6.4%. As a result, the export price per liter reached a record level of €3.42. According to Chris Yorke, CEO of the Austrian Wein, the success in the export markets, and especially the record average price, is very important for the Austrian wine industry. The current wave of inflation is also hitting the Austrian winegrowers hard, which is why the focus must be on growing their added value.

Particularly Austria's white Qualitätswein was high on demand (7.9% in value). According to Chris Yorke the Austrian white wines are really hitting the spot with international consumers and demand is continually growing. Also, the demand for Sekt continued to rise (+19.3%).

During the last year's VieVinum, Austria's largest wine fair, it was already visible, that the Austrian wines are in high demand in certain countries, such as Canada, the USA and in the Northern Europe. Especially in these markets, the consumers are looking for high-quality, environmentally consciously produced wines and they also pay good prices for them.

The great potential of wine marketing in the Nordics can be identified by the strong growth in Finland (+62.3% in value), Denmark (+39.4% in value) and Sweden (+7.2% in value).
