Austria strengthens its political and economic ties with Indonesia

The visit of three high-ranking delegations to Jakarta emphasizes the importance of a strong and fruitful cooperation between Austria and Indonesia.

The days leading up to the second week of November was a busy time for the team of Advantage Austria Indonesia: Not one, but actually three high-ranking Austrian delegations visited Indonesia’s capital in order to establish new relationships and further strengthen already existing cooperations.

The delegation consisting of Federal Minister of Labour and Economy Dr. Martin Kocher, Vice-President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Amelie Gross and Deputy Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Mariana Kühnel met with three Indonesian ministers in order to have a lively discussion on the possibilities for further cooperation, mainly in the fields of vocational education and training, as well as infrastructure development and potentials in the tourism sector.

The highlight, apart from the meetings with Minister of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) Dr. Suharso Monoarfa and Minister of Tourism Dr. Sandiaga Uno, was the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Minister of Manpower Dr. Ida Fauziyah.

At the same time, 12 Austrian tourism companies presented themselves in front of dozens of interested Indonesian travel companies in the form of a B2B workshop, which was conducted in cooperation with the Austrian National Tourist Office. This event was an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the other country’s culture and form important new business connections.

The third delegation consisted of representatives of the International Recruiting Initiative by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Throughout their five-day stay they followed an intensive program and met with various relevant institutions. The aim of their visit was to gain an understanding of the current state of vocational training in Indonesia and to identify the potential for the recruitment of skilled Indonesian workers for the Austrian labor market.
