The Austrian capital Vienna succeeded again: for the 11th time, Vienna topped the "Quality of Living City Ranking". Second place went to Zurich (Switzerland) and third place to Auckland (New Zealand).

For this study, the international consultancy firm Mercer compared the quality of life in 241 major cities around the world. The decisive criteria are health standards, political stability, the economic situation, the education system, the housing market and nature conservation. Mercer complements data from institutes and governments with a survey of expats to compile the rankings.

The survey has been conducted annually since 2009 and was halted due to the Covid pandemic outbreak. Many unpredictable events in recent years have had a direct impact on the global economy and hence quality of life. Workers are revising their priorities and refocusing their work-life balance. In this context, the ongoing ranking of the Austrian capital is particularly gratifying.

The Economist publishes a similar ranking every summer. This year, Vienna was again in first place.
