Vienna has a good reputation for international conferences and, for the last two years, this has even been official: The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) recently published its global rankings for conference cities for 2022, and Vienna is once again leading the field. The current rankings only consider events held in the particular city, while 2021’s list also included hybrid formats (with both physical and online presence).
Europe’s great cities are strongly represented when compared internationally, with 162 conferences taking place in Vienna in 2022, 144 in Lisbon and 134 in Paris. Following behind were Barcelona, Prague, Madrid, Berlin, Athens, Brussels and London.
The most conferences were held in the USA (690), with Spain (528) and Italy (522) taking the remaining places in the top 3. Austria took 11th place at a national level.
70% of all conferences in Austria are held in Vienna. 2023 will also see 17 large-scale events with more than 3,000 participants taking place, of which four are even anticipating attendances in excess of 10,000. These booking figures confirm Vienna’s status as a modern metropolis with good infrastructure and top-quality attractions for tourists.
