Rethinking mobility; how will we navigate the world in the future?

What does the mobility of the future look like? Two “BOLD Minds”, Yvonne Winter and Moritz Novak, have been rethinking mobility in urban spaces – and in space itself.

Mobility is increasing in the widest possible variety of environments, from the waters of the open sea to almost impassable byways, and from the airlessness of space to congested urban thoroughfares.

Space flight is now almost a commonplace, and countless flying hours have already been logged beyond the atmosphere. By comparison, flight in urban spaces is still in its infancy, but it is precisely here that great change is afoot, with sustainability, automation and shared mobility the watchwords in creating new designs for mobility. Drone technology is also making its presence felt in logistics, transport and traffic monitoring. A lot of these ideas have already found use in space, and space travel has always been considered a driver of change. As a pioneer of sustainability and an innovative business location, Austria has been blazing a trail with groundbreaking technologies ranging from the urban eCopter to drive systems for Earth orbit – all made in Austria.

Lifting the curtain on the future of mobility with three questions and two perspectives.

  • “It might not sound intuitive, but in many cases, flying will be cheaper and more environmentally friendly than driving.”

    Yvonne Winter
Co-Founder and COO FlyNow Aviation GmbH, BOLD Mind

How should mobility be rethought?

Mobility must be more sustainable, more efficient, and more accessible. Instead of thinking bigger and more expensive, we at FlyNow favour slimmed-down, automated solutions – for an interconnected, zero-emission future in the air.

How are you challenging the status quo of mobility?

We are questioning the industry’s basic assumptions: does mobility really always have to be bigger, more expensive and more complex? We say it doesn’t, and we have returned to first principles; our eCopter is light, autonomous and efficient. Less is often more – for people, for the environment and for infrastructure.

Environmentally friendly transport – how is that even possible?

Through electrification, trimming back to the essentials, and smart route management. Our aim is to achieve zero-emission air mobility that spares resources while also opening up new opportunities in logistics and passenger travel.

  • „Rethinking mobility means redefining our borders – both on Earth and in space. We are developing drive systems that are not only efficient but will also open up new avenues beyond the atmosphere.”

    Moritz Novak
Co-Founder and CEO GATE Space, BOLD Mind

How should mobility be rethought?

Mobility must be imagined holistically – efficiently, sustainably and looking beyond the Earth. The future belongs to modular, autonomous systems that make intelligent use of our resources.

How are you challenging the status quo of mobility?

We are developing propulsion systems for the orbit that will make space travel more accessible and less resource-intensive – with a focus on precisions, reliability and user-friendliness.

Environmentally friendly transport – how is that even possible?

With fuels that are green, non-toxic and safe, and highly efficient engines.

Whether in town or in space, the future of mobility will be automated, sustainable and without limit, and Austria is showing how innovation and environmental awareness can work together to reach for the stars.
