Thanks to direct flights between Dublin and Munich, ski schools that offer lessons in English and don't require you to bring your own equipment, and sensible accommodation options, Austria is a great option for Irish families who want the winter wonderland experience that can be hard to get on the Island (unless there's the rare "Beast from the East").

Journalist Sybil Mulcahy took her family on a four day ski trip to Söll, a village in Tyrol, Austria. The trip offered more than just skiing. The family tried llama trekking in Ellmau, went night tobogganing, and attended the Ellmauer Skinacht ski show. Mulcahy also noticed how her teenage son naturally disconnected from his phone during the trip.

  • "You come for the skiing, stay for how easy it all feels, and leave wondering why more places don’t do it this way."
