Currently, there are problems with regard to employees temporarily posted from Japan to the Republic of Austria and those temporarily posted from the Republic of Austria to Japan, such as compulsory coverage under the pension systems of both countries. The agreement aims to resolve these problems. Under the agreement, employees temporarily transferred from one country to the other for a period of five years or less will, in principle, be covered only by the systems such as the pension system of the former country. The agreement will also allow these employees to determine eligibility for pension benefits by aggregating the periods of coverage in both countries.

It is expected that the conclusion of this agreement will reduce the burden on companies and employees, thereby further facilitating people-to-people and economic exchanges between Japan and the Republic of Austria.
