Kenya is the largest and most important economy in East Africa, and Nairobi is considered the economic center of the region. The launch of M-Pesa in 2007 sparked a disruption in the fintech industry. Since then, Nairobi has become a major hub for start-ups and new technologies across the region. There are numerous start-up hubs and co-working spaces from which further innovations are being developed. Well-known examples include Cellulant (mobile wallet for farmers), Tala (micro instant loans via smartphone) and Bitsoko (blockchain solution for mobile money).
