Focus on Lighting

A highly advanced system by Thorn – part of Austrian Zumtobel Group – GTLED, a tunnel luminaire with LED technology for very corrosive and demanding environments was installed. Counter beam optics are used in the tunnel's entrance and transition zones. In the inner zone, a bi-symmetrical optic is used in a linear configuration throughout the tunnel, which provides perfect smoothness. The solution provides light levels in a range from 200 cd / m2 during the day at the entrance zone, and down to 2.5 cd / m2 at night. The lighting levels in the tunnel are adapted to the daylight conditions. Visually disturbing glare (TI), an important criterion for tunnel lighting, shows an extra low value at only 2-3% for this installation. GTLED is designed to last for many years in corrosive environments. The luminaire also has an innovative mounting system made of stainless steel.

Fino, a linear and discreet luminaire by another member of the Zumtobel family, acdc, has been beautifully integrated providing coloured light feature.

While Thorn of Zumtobel Group provided the advanced fixtures Austrian STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions was in charge of the intricate installations.

Challenges: Marieholmstunneln, the first piece of an infrastructure puzzle

The Marieholm tunnel, which forms part of the Marieholm connection, is a 500 meter long road tunnel under the Göta River that connects major roads like E20, E6, E45 and Lundbyleden. With the Marieholm connection the first piece of a unique traffic puzzle has been laid in Gothenburg. This comprises a series of investments in public transportation, railways and roads in order to create an attractive and sustainably growth region until 2028. The big challenge has been to minimize the impact on the city and its inhabitants and at the same time carry out such a technically advanced project with ongoing dense traffic.
