Air-to-Rail Journeys Redefine Exploration
Air Canada has launched a novel air-to-rail booking service at major European airports, providing travelers with expanded options. The initiative, established in collaboration with rail partners SNCF, Deutsche Bahn, Swiss Federal Railways, and ÖBB, aims to create convenient "intermodal hubs" with flexible multi-modal ticket choices.
Each region features distinctive offerings. In France, Air Canada's collaboration with SNCF Voyageurs enables customers at Charles De Gaulle airport to purchase a single ticket for up to 22 high-speed rail destinations. Germany sees an extension of Air Canada's partnership with Lufthansa Express Rail, providing access to over 5,600 railway stations from Frankfurt and Munich. Swiss connections involve up to 11 stations for passengers arriving in Zurich or Geneva, while Austria-bound travelers at Vienna Airport can access ÖBB services to nine stations, including Linz, Salzburg, and Innsbruck.
Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning highlighted the enriched travel experience for customers through seamless connections with national rail systems in key European countries. The focus on sustainability was underscored by Galardo, emphasizing the promotion of rail travel for short-haul segments during European journeys.
