This milestone marks a significant advancement in Greece’s aerial surveillance and emergency response capabilities
Cutting-Edge Technology for Critical Missions
The DA62 MPP aircraft are equipped with advanced surveillance and communication systems designed to support firefighting, search and rescue, and real-time intelligence operations. Each aircraft features:
- Trakka TC-375 EO/IR Camera – High-resolution electro-optical and infrared imaging for day and night missions
- Smith Myers ARTEMIS Mobile Phone Localization System – Enables precise location tracking of mobile devices during rescue operations
- CarteNav AIMS-ISR Mission Management System – Streamlines mission planning, execution, and data integration
- Line of Sight & Beyond Line-of-Sight Datalink – Real-time transmission of intelligence data to ground stations
- 4G/5G Data Link – Ensures robust and secure communication channels
- Maritime VHF Radio – Enhances coordination during coastal and maritime operations
“This delivery represents a major step forward in our commitment to supporting governments with advanced aerial solutions,” said Mario Spiegel, Head of Sales, Diamond Special Mission Aircraft.

“The DA62 MPP is engineered for high performance and efficiency in demanding environments, and we are confident these aircraft will significantly enhance Greece’s ability to respond to climate-related emergencies and protect its citizens.”
A Comprehensive Partnership
The contract, signed in Athens, includes not only the aircraft but also ground stations, training, spare parts, and long-term support. Prime contractor ATESE S.A., in collaboration with Diamond Aircraft and local representative IHOR, played a pivotal role in bringing this project to fruition—from initial demonstration flights in November 2022 to completion of deliveries in October 2025.
Largest Investment in Greece’s Resilience
During the delivery ceremony at Megara Airport, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition:

“With great joy, we welcome today the first privately owned aircraft in the history of the Fire Service. This is a symbolic moment, marking the first step in implementing the most ambitious programme for upgrading the aerial fleet of Civil Protection in Greece’s history.”
He referred to the AIGIS program, co-funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, describing it as the largest investment in Greece’s resilience to date. The Prime Minister emphasized that these aircraft represent a major leap forward in operational capability, with lower flight costs and multi-mission flexibility—including potential use for border surveillance.
Looking ahead, Mitsotakis announced further upgrades: modern firefighting helicopters arriving in 2026 and the flagship renewal of the firefighting aircraft fleet, including seven new Canadair 515s, with the first—codenamed GreeceOne—expected in 2028, enabling 24-hour firefighting operations.
We are proud that Austrian technology is contributing to sustainability, safety, and resilience in Greece.
Congratulations to Diamond Aircraft and the Greek authorities on this important step forward!
