The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled in favour of Austrian privacy activist Max Schrems in his dispute with Meta Platforms. The court decided that Meta must limit the use of personal data collected from Facebook for targeted advertising.

Schrems had argued that Meta’s personalised advertising practices violated EU privacy laws, specifically the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The court emphasised that social networks like Facebook cannot use all personal data for targeted ads without restrictions on time and data type.
