In the making of the world's highest highway bridge - the iconic Chenab Bridge in the Himalayas - Austrian expertise played a vital yet often unsung role.
Enter VCE Vienna Consulting Engineers ZT GmbH, the company behind the detailed planning of two monumental cable crane systems, along with construction supervision for the pylon erection. Notably, this isn't just any engineering feat - it includes the largest cable crane system ever built globally !
Spanning 915 meters, with pylons towering at 120m and 100m, these systems were designed to carry 20-tonne loads, operating in tandem across a gorge more than 330 meters deep. All this, to help complete a bridge with 460-meter span connecting the Jammu Srinagar railway line - a lifeline through the rugged Himalayan terrain.
A quiet yet powerful reminder: Austrian companies continue to shape global infrastructure with precision, innovation and reliability.
