The Austrian Wine Tasting 2025, held in Tokyo on July 22, was a resounding success and a significant milestone for Austria’s wine industry in Japan. The event, jointly organized by the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Tokyo and the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB), drew over 600 industry professionals, including representatives from retail, gastronomy, and media.

Around 100 Austrian wineries showcased over 500 wines, with many producers attending in person, while others were represented through importers. The event featured two sold-out Masterclasses, each attended by 80 participants, highlighting the strong interest in Austrian wine among Japanese professionals. In a notable initiative, 40 wineries attended in person, directly engaging with the enthusiastic audience. Additionally, 30 “New Face Wineries”—those not yet represented by Japanese importers—had the opportunity to forge promising new connections.

Get-together Networking Party in Osaka
The momentum continued the next day, July 23, as 30 Austrian wine producers traveled to Osaka for a networking event targeting stakeholders from import, wholesale, retail, and the hospitality industry in the Kansai region.

A Promising Market
“Japan is our most important export market in Asia—45% of our wine exports to the region go there,” said Chris Yorke, CEO of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board. The strong turnout and interest confirm that Austrian wine has firmly established itself in Japan, with even greater growth potential.

With this success in mind, the next Austrian Wine Tasting has already been scheduled for 2027 in Tokyo.
