Marcel Hirscher, undoubtedly one of the best skiers in the world, who ended his career five years ago after 67 World Cup victories, seven World Championship titles, two Olympic gold medals and eight overall World Cup triumphs, recently announced his latest 'project' by wanting to compete in a ski race for his home country, the Netherlands.
But a little differently than before: with two children and two companies - the outdoor label 'The Mountain Studio' and the ski company VAN DEER - Red Bull Sports - ski racing has to fit into his life, not the other way round.
At the end of July, at a press conference and autograph session at SnowWorld in Zoetermeer in the Netherlands, the indoor ski centre with the steepest indoor slope in Europe, Marcel Hirscher explained his plans to the Dutch and well-represented Austrian press, whereby he is not only living his dream, but can also be of significance for skiing and young skiers in the Netherlands. The press conference was co-hosted by Maarten Meiners, the last ski racer to have competed for the Netherlands in the World Cup and World Ski Championships.
The project could also make a significant contribution to getting the Dutch, who are already winter sports enthusiasts, excited about a (winter) holiday in Austria!
To create the right atmosphere for this, Leo Bauernberger and his team from SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH surprised visitors with a successful backdrop, with a Kaiserschmarrn party with chef Fredl Rohrmoser from the Reinbachstube in St. Johann getting them in the mood for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Saalbach 2025 and transporting them to the numerous huts in Salzburger Land.
