Austria is one of the most experienced countries in the world in terms of sustainable building and played a key role in the development of the first passive houses. The construction business is one of the most resource-intensive sectors, and buildings account for approximately one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. Considerable know-how and international collaboration in environmentally friendly, sustainable construction will be needed in the coming years. With the need to reduce CO2 emissions, climate-conscious planning and building are becoming increasingly important. Industry experts on green building and representatives of Canadian architectural and engineering firms met online on November 23, 2022, in the green building webinar organized by the Austrian Trade Commission in Toronto. This event took place on the occasion of COP 27 UN Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh which brought parties together of accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework on Climate Change. Mr. Gregor Postl, the Austrian Consul and Trade Commissioner was on hand to start the webinar followed by the keynote speakers, Wojciech Niedzwiedz, Cree Buildings and Mr. Pooya Baktash from the Canadian company Serotiny Group. The audience was very interested in what Austria does to encourage the transition to environmentally friendly building in Canada. It is very notable how Austria is leading in sustainable building practice and how wood buildings are emerging as important part of the effort to reduce energy consumption and emissions. ![]() Missed our live webinar?
