Austria showed a strong presence at the recent Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference & Exhibition. At the conference, Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation OeAD showcased the country’s strengths in academic mobility, research cooperation, and internationalisation at its dedicated booth bringing 18 Austrian universities and higher education institutions to Hong Kong.
A joint networking reception hosted by OeAD and the Austrian Trade Commission/ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong brought together university representatives and research institutions from across the region with the goal to explore new partnership opportunities and future cooperation between Austria and the dynamic Asia Pacific region.
As part of our ongoing engagement with Hong Kong’s higher education sector, we at ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong put high importance on strengthen academic ties with Hong Kong’s reputable universities, to be able to connect them with the right partners and institutions in Austria for student or lecturer exchange, the establishment of joint programs and academic research cooperation. For this reason, we have recently visited The University of Hong Kong, including the HKU Museum and Art Gallery and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Discussions with the Departments of Geography and Psychology offered insights into HKU’s research priorities, academic focus areas, and opportunities for student exchanges and internships.
The team also visited Hong Kong Metropolitan University, where they learned about its Startup Programmes, Research and Knowledge Transfer initiatives, and its support for entrepreneurship, which offers great opportunities to connect with Austria’s dynamic startup and innovation scene. A tour of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences highlighted HKMU’s advanced simulation facilities and commitment to high‑quality professional training. These activities form part of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong’s broader efforts to promote educational collaboration and opportunities.
This year, we also took part in several education fairs, including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Education and Career Expo in January this year, contributing to greater visibility for Austria as a study destination. Through university visits, exhibitions, and education events, ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong continues to promote academic connections and explore new avenues for cooperation.
