Hong Kong continues to invest heavily in infrastructure, urban development and sustainable growth. Major projects such as the Northern Metropolis are creating new opportunities for international expertise in construction, smart city solutions and sustainable building technologies. For Austrian companies, this provides an attractive environment to showcase innovation and establish new partnerships.
This was the focus of the Austrian Sustainable Construction & Greenbuilding Delegation to Hong Kong, organised by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong in September 2026. Austrian companies active in construction technology, digital planning and sustainable infrastructure met with key stakeholders from Hong Kong’s real estate, infrastructure and urban development sectors to explore business opportunities and build new connections.
The programme included meetings with major developers and key stakeholders like Henderson Land Development Company Limited, MTR Corporation, Nan Fung Development Limited and representatives involved in the planning of the Northern Metropolis. These exchanges provided valuable insights into Hong Kong’s development priorities and highlighted how Austrian expertise can contribute to the city’s future growth.
The delegation demonstrated that Austrian technology is already well established in Hong Kong. Liebherr crawler cranes are a familiar part of the city’s skyline, while RIEGL’s advanced scanning technologies are widely used across infrastructure and construction projects.
At the same time, several innovations were introduced to the Hong Kong market for the first time. These included cross laminated timber solutions from KLH, an innovative cement-based construction foam developed by Miralis and a climate intelligence platform from Infrared City that enables environmental simulations for urban planning and development projects.
A highlight of the week was participation in ReThink HK 2026, where the delegation was represented through an Austria Pavilion. The exhibition provided an additional platform for Austrian companies to present their solutions, strengthen existing relationships and engage with potential partners from across the region.
The delegation brought together Austrian expertise from different areas of the construction and urban development ecosystem:
- Infrared City – Climate intelligence software for urban planning
- KLH Massivholz – Cross laminated timber systems for sustainable construction
- Liebherr – Construction machinery and crane technology
- Miralis – Innovative cement-based construction solutions
- RIEGL – Laser scanning and geospatial measurement solutions
The week demonstrated the strong interest in sustainable construction technologies, digital planning tools and innovative building materials across Asia. We thank all participating companies and partners for their engagement and look forward to the new collaborations and projects that will emerge from this successful mission.
The event is part of go-international, a joint initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Energy and Tourism and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
This initiative took place as part of the ReFocus Austria initiative.
