This has been a summer full of sports in Europe, with the UEFA European football championship just finished in Germany and the 2024 Summer Olympics currently taking place in Paris. Those who have qualified can be especially proud to be there: the road to the Olympic rings is paved with intensive preparation, hard training and lots of other competitions. Focus and clear sightlines are essential here, both when practising a sport and taking part as a fan, and vision and visibility is where two firms from Austria come in.

You need good eye protection in sport, and Austria’s Silhouette Group have developed a particularly high-quality brand of sporting glasses called ‘evil eye’. The hi-tech material for the frames is ultra-light, robust and flexible and its LST® filter technology ensures clear vision in all light conditions, enhancing contrasts and compensating for speedy alternation of light and shade. Every model can also be fitted with prescription lenses.

evil eye glasses are 100% manufactured in Austria but are worn all over the world, by amateur athletes and professionals alike.

There is also a special evil eye collection this year entitled “elevate your game”; its intense neon orange styling is not only on trend for current sports fashion, it also allows both glasses and athletes to stand out in the crowd – and will no doubt be doing just that in Paris over the next few days.

CAMCAT®-Systems GmbH uses cable camera systems to deliver razor-sharp images from lofty heights; this Austrian firm is a global leader in the field, providing cable cameras, high-speed cameras, stabilisers, special mounts and camera equipment, and all the systems are remote-controlled – the cameras can be moved precisely across distances up to 2,500m, with some capable of reaching a speed of 130km/h at any angle.

In addition to sports meetings (e.g. horse-racing, Formula 1 and ski-jumping competitions) this technology from Austria has been used for cultural events (e.g. concerts, royal weddings and charitable occasions) and films (e,g, Harry Potter, Troy and advertising spots).

Having made its first Olympic appearance at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, CAMCAT will also be an essential part of the broadcast team this year in Paris.
