In the annual „Global Business Barometer” survey of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA in cooperation with the Vienna University of Business and Economics, subsidiaries of Austrian companies in Greece were asked to assess the economic situation in 2025 and 2026. Most of the companies surveyed are active as service providers or had sales offices in Greece for Austrian products and services.
The results show that 2025 was widely perceived as a positive year for the participants. Almost half of the Austrian subsidiaries (47%) reported an improvement in Greece’s economic environment, while 40% noted stable conditions. This positive evaluation is also reflected in the assessment of company performance indicators: total turnover, capacity utilization and order books remained mostly stable or recorded growth throughout the year.
Looking ahead to 2026, the mood remains optimistic, though slightly more cautious. Almost half of the respondents anticipate a stable business environment, while a third expect further improvement. Most companies foresee increases or stability in total turnover, order books and capacity utilization. In terms of investment activity, the majority (60%) do not expect significant changes.
Among the main concerns of the subsidiaries are geopolitical risks, particularly East-West decoupling, military conflicts, protectionism, and sanctions. Challenges also persist in areas such as bureaucracy, tax and custom duties, and public procurement processes. Nevertheless, Greece’s business environment continues to offer several notable strengths, including a predictable economic policy, legal certainty and a strong focus on quality. For the majority, the topic of sustainability is of significance. Companies also expect the use of artificial intelligence to increase in 2026.
