ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Tokyo together with ABA invest in Austria, the Vienna Business Agency, GIN (Global Incubator Network, and BABEG (invest in Carinthia) joined the SusHi Tech event at Big Sight, 15 – 16 May, with a small country booth and two startup booths – a setup suggested by the SusHi Tech organizer for the City Zone in the exhibition. For the three participating Austrian investment promotion organizations, SusHi Tech was a great opportunity to meet Japan’s best and ready to globalize startups.
The two startups participating with their own booth were:
- Black Manta: Tokenization as a service
- LoconIQ: High precision, cost effective indoor localization services
Another five Austrian early stage and seed startups participated in the SusHi Tech to get a feeling for the vibrant startup scene in Tokyo and pitched their business ideas at the CIC/Venture Café Austrian Startup Meetup on 16 May:
- Reisigo: Provides services that enable small companies in the leisure industry to easily and legally plan and offer group travel to their customers.
- own.page: Develops a mobile app that empowers individuals to create their own mini websites directly from their smartphones.
- MATR / Circularful GmbH: Offers a mattress-as-a-service solution to hotels.
- Glasskube OS GmbH: Revolutionizes Open-Source Deployments on Kubernetes
- HUBIANA: Enables sustainable meat consumption by providing access to locally and ethically harvested venison.
The City of Tokyo showed its full commitment to make Tokyo into a hub (or “NODE” as they call it) for global startups going to Asia. The event made clear how Tokyo has managed to break into the top 10 of the global startup hotspots within just a few years. The number 10 was also the magic number in the presentation by Tokyo Mayor Yuriko Koike, who promised in her opening speech 10 times more startups, 10 times more collaborations and 10 times more unicorns coming out of Japan. The participating Austrian startups were excited to present themselves to a large number of Japanese CVCs, VCs, startups and international partners.
