On 6 February 2025, the Austrian Trade Commissioner, Wolfgang Köstinger, had the honour to attend and speak at the inauguration ceremony of the new ‘Solid Refuse Fuel’ recycling plant established by AROOT ECO Corporation at the seashore side in Seosan.

SRF recycling plants are a key component of circular economy, turning waste into a resource and contributing to a country’s sustainable development. The SRF recycling plant of the AROOT ECO Corporation is the largest one of its kind across Asia in terms of land size and production capacity and will be a milestone in South Korea’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality and to reach the goal of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by 2030.

The construction of this SRF recycling plant in particular is regarded as a role model of successful Austrian-Korean business collaboration, as the plant is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology ‘made in Austria’. With the support of their official distributor, SJ Corporation, the two Austrian companies BINDER and KOMPTECH supplied the main machines, equipment and facilities for this innovative plant, like the Terminator, Drum Screen, Ballistor, Equalizor, BIVITEC Screen and Breezers – to name just a few. These machines will significantly contribute to grind down ‘Solid Refuse Fuel’ to a mere 20 mm for the first time in South Korea.

After the festive inauguration including a ribbon cutting ceremony, the event concluded with a tour of the facility, showcasing the impressive technology and processes that will transform waste into valuable fuel.
