ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Philippines led by Commercial Counsellor Christina Stieber presented the 2023 Energy Globe Award to GCash last 12 March 2024 for their GForest initiative. Accepting the award were GCash (Mynt – Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc.) Vice President and Sustainability Group Head Winsley Bangit, AVP for Sustainability CJ Alegre and the dedicated team at GForest.
GForest stands as a pioneering endeavor in prompting sustainability and reforestation through a digital financial app. The Philippines’ rich biodiversity faces threats from climate change and deforestation, leading GCash to develop GForest. All GCash users can earn a certain amount of Green Energy Points when you Buy Load, Send Money, Pay Bills, Cash-In, or even when you register up to 20,000 steps per day from walking. When you have enough Green Energy points, you can plant a virtual tree on GForest that will be planted by GCash and its local and international partners in key locations nationwide. As of 2023, GCash has planted over 2.7 million actual trees in 14 key areas and an estimated 8,600 smallholder farming families have benefited from this initiative.
