Austria at Hong Kong Art Week and Museum Summit 2023

Hong Kong showed a strong comeback as a cultural capital of Asia and Austrian Galleries and Museum Experts want to be a part of the dynamic community!

Austria at Art Basel:

Art Basel Hong Kong from March 23- 25 saw the return of Galleries Thaddaeus Ropac” and “Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder” as exhibitors showcasing exhibiting contemporary art from Austria, Europe and beyond at Asia’s leading contemporary art event.

Belvedere Museum Vienna has Joined the MetaVerse:

Belvedere Museum Vienna made use of the HK Art Week to promote the 300-year-old Museum which has the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings. The Museum is which is staying young at heart:  Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece “The Kiss”, one of the World’s most famous paintings, has joined the metaverse:  Belvedere had recently teamed up with NFT investment fund artèQ to fractionalize a high-resolution digital edition of “The Kiss” into 10,000 unique digital fractions (as NFTs, non-fungible tokens) and are available for purchase.  Belvedere Belvedere’s Wolfgang Bergmann (CFO) and Markus Wiesenhofer (Marketing) met at a networking event at the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong office with a community interested in art, NFT and Austria combined.  They also showed a clip from the Seoul Fashion week at which Korean star designer Lie Sang Bong presented a Gustav Klimt inspired fashion collection (in collaboration with Belvedere).

Austria at Museum Summit Hong Kong:

Austrian speakers were also featured at the „ Museum Summit 2023“ at the HK Palace Museum on March 24 and 25: Artistic Director Hemma Schmutz from Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz briefed on the Linz experience of “Collective Curating and Other Forms of Activating the Public in Museums”, Stella Rollig from Belvedere illustrated Belvedere journey into the digital space (“Between Baroque Splendour and the Metaverse”).

Gallery Thaddaeus Ropac
Founded in 1983, Thaddaeus Ropac has galleries across Europe and Asia, located in London, Paris, Salzburg and Seoul. Specialising in contemporary art and representing over 60 artists, the gallery supports and showcases the careers of some of the most influential artists today with a wide-ranging programme of over 40 exhibitions curated at the six extensive and historic gallery spaces each year.

The Gallery represents a living tradition of exploring contemporary art. Since the 1950s, it has been located in the centre of Vienna. Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, the gallery’s director since 1978 and owner since 1987, exhibits artists who represent international positions of abstraction and concept-based art in the areas of painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, video and new media art.
