End of May the Vienna Economic Chamber and the Austrian Federal Railways led an Austrian delegation to the capital of Henan, Zhengzhou. With its central location the province is an important railway and logistics hub within China. The visit provided Austrian companies from the railway and logistics sector with profound insights into recent developments, as well as extensive networking opportunities.
After successful meetings with representatives of the local government and railway officials, the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways), the second largest freight railway in Europe and supplier to 18 countries, is planning a direct train connection to Zhengzhou in order to increase rail cargo sales. Next to the Austrian logistics industry, this rail connection will also be beneficial for other sectors offering shorter shipping times.
Besides the official meetings, the delegation also visited BYD, SAIC Motors, Yutong New Energy Vehicles, the world’s largest bus manufacturer, the New Silk Road Port Investment Company, the Zhengzhou International Land Port, one of the biggest land ports in Asia and the China Railway Seventh Group.
After this fruitful visit the new rail freight connection between Vienna and Zhengzhou is expected to be realized soon.
