ENERGY GLOBE AWARD aims to promote environmental awareness and the use of best practice solutions and technologies worldwide. The ENERGY GLOBE national and regional awards have been handed out annually since the year 2000 in over 180 countries and regions in addition to one global award. The ENERGY GLOBE Hong Kong SAR 2022 winners were recognized on December 5, 2022 at an award ceremony at the Business Environment Council Auditorium. Austrian Consul General Karl ERNST handed over the awards in the presence of Simon NG (CEO, Business Environment Council), Austrian Trade Commissioner Franz ROESSLER and other distinguished guests.
And the winners are:
Category FIRE and overall Hong Kong SAR Winner:
Project: "O · PARK1"
Awarded to: OSCAR Bioenergy Joint Venture
, the first organic resources recovery centre in Hong Kong, located at Siu Ho Wan of North Lantau adopts anaerobic digestion technology to convert food waste into biogas (a source of renewable energy similar to natural gas) for electricity generation whilst the residues from the process can be produced as compost for landscaping and agriculture use. O∙PARK1 is capable of handling 200 tonnes of food waste per day. O∙PARK1 is a “waste to energy” environmental project able to reduce approximately 42,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year at full capacity. Other environmental benefits include the diversion of food waste from landfills and being able to beneficially recover the resources in the form of electricity and compost. Power can be considered a “green” form of energy. Since Hong Kong has limited landfill space, any diversion of waste has a great positive impact on society and the environment.

Project: "FreshAR for Kids”
Awarded to: Liz Ying Tung WONG, Growth Playground
FreshAR for kids is a social project based in Hong Kong. They aim to conserve our environment and reduce solid toys wastage generation by reducing, reusing and recycling. They eliminate plastic production and consumption in the toy industry. FreshAR for kids has a vision to promote the circular economy, global sustainability and zero waste for a sustainable world by providing education and inspiration to the next generations. They provide all-in-one solutions including Toys Collecting Services, Multi-Partnership Community Activities, Eco Carnivals, Toys Upcycling Workshops, Corporate Team Building Training, and Eco Products Selling to achieve the mission and vision stated above.

Project: "Energy-saving Sonic and Antiviral Filtration in Buildings"
Awarded to: Aurabeat Technology Limited (Mr Roger Sze TO, CEO and Co-Founder)
Aurabeat, a startup company supported by the U.S. famed Silicon Y-combinator, aims to tackle the world's two most challenging issues, the record-breaking growth of carbon emission and the widespread coronavirus. Aurabeat initiated a project for acoustic-aided antiviral energy-saving air filtration with two innovative technologies, acoustic-aided filtration technology and silver ion antiviral disinfection technology focusing on the aspect of air. In the project, the sixth mechanical air filtration mechanism is introduced to increase the probability of particulate entering across the filter media of which a patent-pending silver ion coating is applied.
Category: WATER
Project: "Building Dynamic Ocean Ecosystem with 3D-Printing Technology"
Awarded to: archiREEF (Dr. David Baker, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist)
archiREEF provides eco-engineering solutions for ocean ecosystem restoration. They restore degraded ecosystems and mobilize Blue Carbon to achieve carbon neutrality, together with their clients. archiREEF offers adaptive solutions with the latest technologies in 3D printing, IoT, and AI to enhance restoration outcomes. archiREEF co-designed the world’s first artificial reef structure 3D-printed in terracotta with the biomimicry adaptive design for the purpose of coral restoration. The biomimetic pattern is aesthetically and functional - with the function of enhancing coral’s survivorship and growth. The reef tiles have been proven 4 times more effective in keeping the corals alive than the conventional methods. archiREEF’s reef tiles stand out as it is the first of its kind that is 3D printed in truly environmentally friendly materials.
About Energy Globe Award:
A sustainable initiative for a sustainable future! Committed people all around the world develop solutions for the most pressing environmental problems of our time like resource scarcity, air and water pollution, erosion, climate change or dependence on fossil fuels. Although these solutions are readily available, they often remain unheard of. ENERGY GLOBE gives them a voice and presents them to a large audience to make them visible and encourage others to come up with their own innovative solution.
ENERGY GLOBE AWARD aims to promote environmental awareness and the use of best practice solutions and technologies worldwide. The ENERGY GLOBE national and regional awards have been handed out annually since the year 2000 in over 180 countries and regions in addition to one global award. Projects from all over the world are submitted, ranging from small and simple initiatives to large scale high-end ones. The national and regional winners of the Energy Globe Award are published in cooperation with UNIDO at www.energyglobe.info.
ENERGY GLOBE itself is based in Austria and supported there by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA and internationally by UNIDO, the Global Chamber Platform, and the Club of Rome. With up to 2,000 project submissions world-wide it has become one - if not the - most prestigious international award for efforts to protect the environment and initiate measures for climate change.
