Austria and eight Austrian companies participating in a trade mission organized by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Beijing were highlighted at the 9th Jilin International Ice & Snow Exposition which took place from Dec. 18 – 22, 2025 in Changchun. At the concurrent “China – Jilin – Austria Ice and Snow Industry Exchange Conference” the Austrian companies introduced their unique technologies and solutions suitable not only for the ice and snow sector in the Northeast but for all of China.
Several skiing resorts in Jilin are using ropeways, access control gates and skis and boots made in Austria. New opportunities are also created in indoor skiing halls. The delegation visited the Wanda Indoor Ski hall and also witnessed there Austrian technologies used (gates, skis and boots and snow grooming equipment). This event successfully facilitated concrete cooperation between Austrian and Chinese companies.
Austria is a world leading winter sports destination. The Alps cover nearly two-thirds of our country’s surface. 2900 ropeway installations and 7500 kilometers of ski slopes turn Austria into one of the top skiing destinations of Europe, having hosted the Winter Olympics already twice in Innsbruck. Austria also possesses immense know-how in the winter industry. From skiing equipment to cable cars: numerous world market leaders in their respective fields call Austria their home. Thanks to decades of experience and expertise, the Alpine republic is considered a trailblazer and master exporter worldwide in the winter sports industry. Did you know for example that almost every second ski worldwide carries Austrian DNA?
Especially in the run up to the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, many of those Austrian winter sports pioneers provided numerous Chinese ski resorts with high quality winter sports know-how and products “Made in Austria”. Austrian companies and associations maintain excellent relations with China’s winter sports sector and are willing to share their experience, expertise and passion. Although China is rather a late comer in certain disciplines in winter sports, it is astonishing how fast it is catching up.
