Austria continues to captivate Australian travellers, with record-breaking results for the third consecutive year. In 2025, Australians generated 185,000 arrivals and over 504,000 overnight stays, surpassing the half-million mark for the first time (+16.5% arrivals, +18.6% overnights vs. 2024).

Winter remains the peak season, led by strong demand for Austria’s renowned ski regions, with December and January delivering standout results. Summer travel is also growing steadily, particularly across June, July and September.

Key destinations recorded impressive growth, including Vienna (+24%), Salzburg and SalzburgerLand (+16%), and Tyrol (+15%). Vorarlberg led regional growth with a 28% increase, while emerging destinations such as Graz continue to gain popularity.

Major events contributed to this success, including Vienna’s Strauss anniversary celebrations and Salzburg’s 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music. Looking ahead, 2026 will bring further highlights, with Vienna hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 and Salzburg opening a new Sound of Music museum.
