Europe's first hydrogen valley in Austria

Europe's first hydrogen valley, focused on industrial applications, is being established in Styria, Upper Austria, and Carinthia, winning a competitive EU tender. Between 2025 and 2030, 17 hydrogen projects with a total investment of 578 million euros, including 20 million euros in initial EU funding, will be implemented. These projects, led by the WIVA P&G research institute and involving 48 partners, will cover the entire hydrogen value chain—production, transportation, storage, and usage—with plans to produce over 10,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The projects, mainly focused on industry (56%), energy (23%), and mobility (21%), aim to decarbonize domestic industry, with detailed planning beginning in 2025, construction through 2028, and optimization until 2030.
