Energy Globe Award Thailand 2024 Winner: Tom Casava

Winning project: Activated Carbon from Cassava Stumps
listen

At our Austrian Business Circle Luncheon in January 2025 we handed over the Energy Globe Award 2024 for Thailand to Tom Casava for their winning project: Activated Carbon from Cassava Stumps. Tom Cassava has developed an innovative clean technology to convert cassava stalks into activated carbon. The solution provides farmers with income and awareness of global warming.

Over 5.5 million tons of cassava stumps are burned annually in Thailand alone, releasing a staggering 15 million tons of CO2!

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Tom Casava to our office to share more details about their project.

Tom Cassava empowers farmers to transform waste into value. By collecting cassava stumps instead of burning them, farmers gain additional income, while Tom Cassava uses these stumps to create activated carbon, which is a versatile material used for odor treatment, water purification, and more - without the need of chemicals or fossil fuels. This innovative process significantly reduces carbon emissions, raises awareness of climate change, and help address the global waste problem from the agricultural industry.

ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Thailand is proud to highlight Tom Cassava in bringing this sustainable solution to the global market.
