The Interdisciplinary Transformation University (IT:U) in Linz has launched its first in-house wet lab, called ERIN, to support research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, environmental innovation and the circular economy. According to the university, the new facility is already operational and is part of a growing hands-on research environment designed to connect digital methods with physical experimentation.

The lab is intended to strengthen both applied research and education in industrial transformation by combining algorithmic AI methods with experimental, real-world settings. IT:U says this approach reflects a broader belief that major challenges such as climate change and sustainable production can only be addressed by linking digital and physical systems more closely.

The opening of ERIN also highlights the rapid build-out of IT:U, which only began regular operations in 2024. The Linz-based university has positioned itself with a strong practical focus and close industry collaboration, including partnerships for additional “LearnLabs” that support applied innovation.
