Austrian companies have a long-standing tradition in supplying railway and airport infrastructure, components and related technologies to Vietnam. For instance, the first metro lines in Vietnam use turnouts made in Austria, Vietnam Railways has been relying on track maintenance machines from Austria for a long time, and a number of airports around Vietnam are equipped with firefighting trucks and air traffic communication equipment supplied by Austrian firms.
In a meeting with the Ministry of Transport, the participants in the trade mission learned about the large-scale master plans for the expansion of transport infrastructure in Vietnam. These include the construction of eight airports, a total of 20 metro lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and a high-speed rail link between these two cities. Further meetings were held with the city of Hanoi, Vietnam Railways, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Vietnam Air Traffic Management (VATM), as well as relevant consulting firms for transportation infrastructure projects. A special highlight for all participants was the guided tour at the control room of Hanoi's first metro line, followed by a ride to the Hanoi Metro Company.
