In our last webinar on 1.3.2022, we had two interesting guests talking about the future of Thailand’s Manufacturing Industry. The first speaker Dr. Kasititorn Pooparadai, Senior Exec Vice President of Digital Economic Promotion Agency (DEPA), updated us on the current status quo of Thailand’s industrial digitalization. It was very interesting to hear that in many manufacturing sectors, the majority of Thailand’s industry is still in the stage of Industry 1.0, with some being already Industry 2.0 and 3.0. Industry 4.0 only making a small percentage of Thailand's production yet. The ambition for the next 5 years is to help move almost all Industry 1.0 into 2.0 and to aid advanced companies implementing Industry 4.0. The biggest advancements will likely be in the electronics sector, but will also be visible at a slower speed in the plastics, textiles and food sector. There will be governmental help for companies to achieve the technological change with the “DEPA Digital Transformation Fund”. There, companies can apply to get up to 1,000,000 Baht funding for projects that develop their manufacturing process.
Our second speaker was Egils Rubenis the CEO of IntegrationWorks Asia Co., Ltd whose company developed the platform Octobus, which is a solution for the Digital Transformation of industrial processes. By highlighting the applications of Octobus one was able to see the sectors where an interconnectivity in between processes and sensors is already taking place in Thailand. The main fields so far are in the automatization of processes such as maintenance, the reduction of energy consumption due to smart monitoring and increasing efficiency by continues monitoring or process performance.
