Recap: BootCamp USA Launches in Miami

listen

In February, we successfully launched our first-ever BootCamp USA in Miami, Florida, bringing together Austrian companies eager to enter and expand in the U.S. market. This was volume 15 of our extremely successful BootCamp USA workshop series!

Why Miami? The city has rapidly evolved into a major U.S. hub for fintech, trade, and hospitality, while serving as a strategic gateway to Latin America. Florida overall is home to a growing number of Austrian subsidiaries and expats, particularly in hospitality, cruise tourism, entertainment, and technology.

Day one began with insights from the Miami-Dade Beacon Council on how the region supports international companies entering this fast-growing market. A cultural deep dive followed, highlighting key differences between Austria and the U.S. in communication styles, decision-making, and business mindset. The afternoon focused on essential U.S. tax considerations—critical topics companies must address early to avoid costly missteps.

Day two shifted to legal and operational realities. Participants received guidance on liability, risk management, and data protection in the U.S., followed by practical go-to-market strategies rooted in Florida-based experience. The group also explored how to effectively pitch to US audiences. The day concluded at the Miami-Dade Beacon Council Annual Meeting, where participants gained firsthand insight into regional economic priorities and had the opportunity to meet Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

The program continued with deeper dives into the mechanics of entering and scaling in the U.S. market. Sessions covered the growing role of digital marketing and AI in go-to-market strategies, recruiting and compensation differences between Austria and the U.S., and key banking considerations when establishing and expanding a U.S. subsidiary. A candid “U.S. market reality check” rounded out the day, addressing how decisions are actually made inside American organizations—and how to avoid common misconceptions. The day ended with a relaxed reception at Burgermeister, a standout burger spot owned by Austrian chef Alexander Ringleb.

The final day focused on two critical operational pillars: sales and supply chain.

Participants received a compact overview of U.S. sales structures, comparing sales representatives and distributors, including strengths, limitations, compensation models, commission-based approaches, inbound lead programs, and best practices in lead management.

The workshop concluded with a practical look at U.S. logistics. While the U.S. has extensive transport infrastructure, inefficiencies in ports and rail systems, customs challenges, and the sheer geographic scale of the country create complexity and cost considerations that are often underestimated. The session provided actionable recommendations to navigate these realities.

Our Miami BootCamp was an intensive, hands-on week! Our participants walked away with the knowledge, network, and practical tools needed to succeed in the U.S. market. We’re already looking forward to our next BootCamps in New York in April, in Chicago in September, and more to come.
