Its export percentage is more than 87%. Around 4 million tonnes of paper and cardboard and 1.7 million tons of cellulose are produced at 27 locations.

Austrian machine producers in the plastics area, as well as corrugated cardboard producers and processors are particularly successful internationally. In display and transport, Austrian companies score points with creativity and high quality. 

Label manufacturers from Austria are also in international demand, e.g. with individual safety solutions for product and brand protection. 

An Austrian company is also the global leader in the production of flexible packaging. It supplies numerous multinational corporations as well as local market leaders in the food, pet food, pharmaceutical and drinks industry.

The industry has a long tradition; one of the internationally successful producers of cardboard boxes and folding boxes can already look back at more than 100 years of corporate history. 

The global market leader in cigarette papers and filter paper comes from Austria, supplies its products to more than 100 countries and has a tradition stretching back hundreds of years.

Challenges for the future

Demographic change is influencing the sector. Special product solutions are in demand for single households, children and older people. Ever stricter statutory specifications also have to be taken into account, whether in the area of labelling requirements or environmental regulations. And finally there are cost-saving, shelf-ready packaging solutions for retail, which is also a field in which Austrian providers supply their international customers with products of outstanding quality.
