Austria has many qualities as a destination country for visitors. Its excellent security situation, the clean environment and a broad range of cultural activities attract people from all over the world. A high quality of life thanks to good infrastructure and the proverbial congeniality are elements that make the country interesting for international customers.

In the area of incoming tourism, holidaymakers have a wide choice of activities and opportunities for relaxation. In the summer, Austria's mountains and cities lend themselves as destinations; in the winter there is the attraction of winter sports.

In the area of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events), Austrian companies in the sector are the right contact persons for major events such as congresses, conferences and company events. The providers master the logistical challenge of organising events with up to 3,000 participants.

The services offered by the sector also include special services such as health tourism and thematic tourism, e.g.architecture, wine and art trips.

Austrian specialities

Austria has the world's best skiers because the Austrian mountains and lift facilities are world-class. Guests from many parts of the world who are enthusiastic about snow and winter sports have long profited from this because Austria is a pioneer when it comes to winter tourism. Today, classical ski sport is supplemented by additional services such as fun parks for snowboards, spa for après-ski and regional link-up systems of ski resorts.

The range of cultural services offered by Austrian cities is substantial. Particularly classical music is cultivated in Austria. For instance, Vienna, a city with just 2 million inhabitants manages to attract 100,000 visitors every year to its Summer Night Concert with classical music. Other trends in tourism to Austria are ship river cruises and wine tourism.

The industry is heavily dependent on external parameters such as currency fluctuations or political developments. A multicultural mix of services compensates for this and the intercultural expertise of the Austrian tourism industry is substantial. They create custom-fit offers for visitors from various cultural circles.

Tourism in person

The personnel in tourism in Austria is superbly qualified and conveys the "Austria feeling" appreciated by the guests. These employees also enjoy an excellent reputation abroad. Their training is done at all levels:

  • Apprenticeship
  • Vocational colleges
  • University of applied sciences
  • Modul University
  • Tourism schools Salzburg

Sustainability

One of the most important reasons for travellers to select Austria as a destination is the country's unspoilt nature. That is why it is important for the tourism companies to propagate and implement sustainable activities. For instance, waste avoidance and separation, or energy-saving concepts in food service and hotels are important aspects of marketing tourist services.

Successful together

The competition situation in tourism is resulting in a high quality of the services offered. Many institutions and companies interact for the well-being of the guests. From the municipalities who look after the infrastructure and the regions who pool their marketing to the food service trade and the event organisers; they all work hand in hand for the international visitors.
