Everyone knows Porsche as a luxury German sports car brand – but few realize its majority ownership and creative DNA are Austrian. Based in Zell am See, Studio F. A. Porsche is the origin and design powerhouse behind the global lifestyle brand Porsche Design.
Studio F. A. Porsche was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the iconic Porsche 911—with the Chronograph I watch as its first creation. It was also the first product to bear the Porsche Design name.
The studio’s design philosophy places function at the forefront and seeks to go beyond the familiar—to continually discover new, innovative, and exceptional solutions.
Besides the work for the Porsche inhouse brands, Studio F. A. Porsche actively collaborates with external partners and brands around the world to create outstanding products —ranging from an Airstream travel trailer and a Griffner prefab house to a 115-ft superyacht, aircraft interiors and even a dental chair for the Japanese company Morita.
The studio’s commitment to premium design excellence transcends industries, offering expertise across four key domains:
- Mobility – road, air, rail, water, and sport
- Product – consumer goods, electronics, home & living, medical, industrial goods
- Spatial – kitchens, bathrooms, lounges, public spaces, infrastructure
- Digital – user experience, HMI/GUI, service design, and phygital design
Its U.S. presence is at Porsche Design of America, in the greater Los Angeles area.
