WorldSkills International holds its professional world championships every two years, and the aim of the platform is both to encourage young professionals across the globe and to develop innovative approaches to vocational training. After Shanghai was cancelled, the 46th skills championships were for the first time held in 15 different countries this year.

The excellent results achieved at WorldSkills 2022 are further proof that Austria’s vocational training is amongst the best in the world, with Team Austria netting no fewer than 12 medals at the professional world championship – six gold, two silver and four bronze. The national team also bagged a total of 20 Medallions for Excellence (awarded for extraordinary achievements).

Austria was represented by 45 young professionals who were put through their paces against more than 1,000 competitors from all over the world. Participants demonstrated their knowledge and skills in a wide range of vocational and professional situations, and Austria’s fantastic results have once again shown that the country’s dual education system for training young professionals (parallel training in a commercial setting and a vocational school) is an essential option and a model with an international future.
